HONOR Bolsters its “1+8+N” All-scenario IoT Strategy with Comprehensive Suite of New Smart Devices

HONOR showcases an intelligent and integrated ecosystem comprising the HONOR 9X PRO, the HONOR View30 PRO, both with the HUAWEI AppGallery, one of the world’s top three app stores, the HONOR MagicBook Series, new customizations for the HONOR MagicWatch 2 and the fitness-focused HONOR Magic Earbuds.

HONOR strengthened its all-scenario IoT strategy with the launch of a comprehensive PROduct line-up through a live stream press conference. The HONOR 9X PRO, pre-installed with the new HUAWEI AppGallery, among the world’s top three app stores, marks the start of an intelligent, mobile and interconnected ecosystem for HONOR users. HONOR also announced the global availability of the HONOR View30 PRO, the first HONOR smartphone equipped with the Kirin 990 5G chipset, and introduced the brand new HONOR MagicBook Series with two sleek and lightweight laptops in a powerfully compact package for creators on-the-go, and the True Wireless Stereo (TWS), HONOR Magic Earbuds for fitness enthusiasts. In addition, the HONOR MagicWatch 2 will now be even more customizable with a new line of watch straps called EasyFit Series, and it will also come with new health tracking functions. To support its goal to orchestrate a one-stop, all-scenario intelligent living ecosystem for young people around the world, HONOR commissioned Canalys to conduct a study into intelligent living trends in Europe.

Smart device shipments in Europe is expected to surpass 500 million in 2023, up from 436 million units in 2019 according to the recent report Intelligent living in Europe. Between 2020 to 2023, the smart device market in Europe is expected to increase by a CAGR of 3.5%, with smart speakers and smart personal audio being the fastest growing categories.

“Our unique portfolio of smart and cutting-edge PROducts has expanded our IoT ecosystem and created a ubiquitous and seamless experience for our global customers,” said George Zhao, President of HONOR Global. “According to research conducted by Canalys1, 41% of surveyed respondents carry more than one smart device while at work or on-the-go, and this increases to 68% while they are at home. This demonstrates an increase in demand for more intelligent and digital experiences. HONOR 9X PRO: Extraordinary experience with essential and exclusive apps from HUAWEI AppGallery

Equipped with the state-of-the art 7nm Kirin 810 AI Chipset, a 48MP Triple Camera and a 6.59” HONOR FullView Display, the HONOR 9X PRO delivers an enhanced user experience with upgrades across performance, gaming and photography. The Kirin 810 AI Chipset runs on Huawei’s brand-new computing architecture to allow more sophisticated and diverse applications in AI. Furthermore, its GPU is upgraded to the custom Mali-G52 that enables Kirin Gaming+, a feature that PROvides a smoother gaming experience while its Liquid Cooling System effectively imPROves heat dissipation during PROlonged gameplay.

Through the HUAWEI AppGallery, the HONOR 9X PRO has access to a wide variety of apps across Health & Fitness, Entertainment, Music, and Photography. With this secure platform, users can now easily and reliably install apps that complement their smart lifestyles. The HONOR 9X PRO is also equipped with the Huawei Assistant, a virtual assistant that facilitates information search and apps accessibility, adding more convenience for the user. Users can also utilize the SmartCare feature of the Huawei Assistant to access contextual cards for Stocks and Sports that covers 150 sporting events and more than 150 major stock markets2. Furthermore, users can get insights to Calendar, Weather, Missed Calls, Phone Usage, and Data Consumption. More services in other categories will be added in due course.

The HONOR 9X PRO will be available in France, Germany, the Netherlands, Egypt, KSA (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) and Malaysia from March 2020 at a MSRP of €249.

HONOR View30 PRO: Pioneering 5G technology, groundbreaking Matrix camera for amazing photos and cinema-grade videos

Developed with pioneering 5G technology and armed with the latest Kirin 990 Series chipset, the HONOR View30 will deliver an industry-leading 5G experience as it enables a multitude of 5G applications in smart homes, travel and gaming. It comes with a SuperSensing Triple Camera that comprises a 40MP Sony IMX600 Main Camera, a 12MP Super Wide-Angle Camera with Cine-Lens and an 8MP Telephoto Camera. Not only will this unique Matrix camera deliver amazing still photographs, the 12MP Cine-Lens is supported by a 16:9 customized sensor to create movie-grade photos and videos.

The highly anticipated HONOR View30 PRO will be commercially available soon, with Russia being the first market to kick off its official sale.

HONOR MagicBook 14/15: Thin, lightweight notebooks with up to 10-hour battery life

The launch of the HONOR MagicBook series, which comprises the HONOR MagicBook 14 and HONOR MagicBook 15, marks the first time a PROduct from HONOR’s PC category will be available to a global audience. Available in Space Gray and Mystic Silver, the HONOR MagicBook 14 boasts a compact, thin and lightweight design. Catering to young people on-the-go, the HONOR MagicBook 14 lasts up to 10 hours in a single charge, and sports a compact Type-C charger with 65W fast charging capability. It has a FullView display with a high screen-to-body ratio, powerful core for ultra-fast performance and enhanced graphics, as well as smart interconnectivity between HONOR smartphones and the laptop.

Privacy is as important as design and performance on the laptop. The HONOR MagicBook Series comes equipped with a pop-up webcam that is discreetly hidden underneath the camera button on the keyboard. Users can simply tap on the camera button on the keyboard to make the webcam pop up when they need it. This serve as a unique privacy safeguard which PROtects against remote hijacking and peeping. Furthermore, the fingerprint power button which enables instant access from startup to desktop directly for a more secure and effortless login experience.

To showcase the laptop’s superior battery life, which lasts up to 10 hours on a single charge, HONOR built a charging system capable of powering an electric quad bike, using just five HONOR MagicBook 14 units. Within an hour, apPROximately 180Wh was transferred from the five HONOR MagicBook 14 into the quad bike to allow the e-vehicle to drive 5km in distance. The HONOR MagicBook 14/15 (256GB) will be made available in the UK, Germany, France, Czech Republic and other markets from the end of March with an MSRP of €599.

HONOR MagicWatch 2: EasyFit Series straps and new functions

HONOR today introduced the EasyFit Series watch straps, made exclusively for the HONOR MagicWatch 2, which will be available in two sizes -46mm and 42mm. With eight new colors available and different strap materials to choose from, including fluoroelastomer(an eco-friendly hypoallergenic material) and high-quality Italian leather, you can customize your watch based on your specific activities and different outfits for any occasion. There are six colors available for the fluoroelastomer, including Daylight Yellow, Olive Green, Reef Blue, Sky Blue, Lilac Purple, and Camellia Pink, and two colors, Wonderland Green and Wizard Purple, for the leather strap. The EasyFit Series straps will be globally available from April with an MSRP of €35.9.

The Female Cycle Tracker allows women to be more informed about their menstrual cycle by using the app to track their periods, record symptoms and be on top of their next period start date. The period-tracking calendar also allows user to compare their data in one place. Furthermore, users can opt-in to receive push notifications before the predicted cycle start date. With the enhanced SpO2 monitor, fitness enthusiasts can monitor their oxygen saturation level in the blood stream during a workout. The HONOR MagicWatch 2 will be upgraded with the SpO2 via over-the-air software from the end of March 2020.

HONOR Magic Earbuds: New frontier of wireless accessories

HONOR also introduced the HONOR Magic Earbuds, the ultimate truly wireless earbuds for fitness fans that combine the Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling Technology with a secure fit that can last through any workout. Its built-in triple microphones have adaptive ambient noise cancelling technology that allows excellent call quality. Furthermore, it is equipped with a 10mm driver unit to deliver exceptional bass quality for music lovers. The HONOR Magic Earbuds are available in Pearl White and Robin Egg Blue, and will be globally available from April 2020 at an MSRP of €129.

Samsung Introduces 1.2μm 50Mp ISOCELL GN1 with Faster Auto-focusing and Brighter Images

Dual Pixel technology creates 100-million phase-detecting photodiodes for snappy auto-focusing and light information that can be translated up to 100 megapixels.

Tetracell technology enables light-sensitive 2.4μm pixels for ultimate low-light photography.

Samsung Electronics, a world leader in advanced semiconductor technology, today introduced Samsung ISOCELL GN1, a new 50-megapixel (Mp) image sensor with large 1.2μm-sized pixels. The ISOCELL GN1 is Samsung’s first image sensor to offer both Dual Pixel and Tetracell technologies. Thanks to the relatively larger pixel size, the GN1 brings image sensor performance to a new level with a combination of elevated light sensitivity for stellar low-light photos and DSLR-level auto-focus speeds, optimized for more dynamic picture-taking experiences.

“With innovative pixel technologies, Samsung has been at the forefront of offering high-performance image sensors that closely cater to increasingly diversifying market needs. The ISOCELL GN1 is part of that commitment to deliver stunning images to consumers in any environment,” said Yongin Park, executive vice president of sensor business at Samsung Electronics. “We will continue to introduce image sensor solutions at the cutting-edge that will lead the next trends in mobile photography.”

Creating desirable images is an indispensable element for today’s smartphone users who are well accustomed to visually grasping and cherishing special moments, wherever they are. To address various imaging preferences of the users, some smartphone makers put more emphasis on extremely detailed images with ultra-high resolutions, while some choose bigger pixels for bright results in low-light environments. The new Samsung ISOCELL GN1 fulfills these multiple needs at once with Dual Pixel and Tetracell technologies.

The GN1 brings best-in-class auto-focusing with 100 million phase detection auto-focus (PDAF) agents. Samsung’s Dual Pixel technology places two photodiodes side-by-side within a single pixel that can receive light from different angles for phase detection. With all of the sensor’s active pixels working as auto-focusing agents, the GN1 can detect and focus onto a desired still or moving object from every corner in an instant, even in low-light conditions. When capturing images, a single pixel output is created by merging the outputs from the two photodiodes within the pixel. Samsung also provides a software algorithm that takes light information from each photodiode to produce image resolutions comparable to 100Mp.

For ultimate low-light photography, the GN1 adopts Tetracell technology, a pixel-merging technique that improves the pixels’ capacity to capture and process more light. By binning four pixel signals into one, Tetracell doubles the image sensor’s pixel size to 2.4μm and quadruples the light sensitivity to take brighter 12.5Mp photographs. With improved light sensitivity combined with a powerful auto-focusing solution, the GN1 is able to focus on an object quickly even in extreme low-light environment to deliver both brighter and sharper results.

In addition to Dual Pixel and Tetracell technologies, the GN1 comes with Smart-ISO that intelligently selects the optimal ISO, real-time HDR that captures the scene in multiple exposures simultaneously, and gyro-based electronic image stabilization (EIS) that takes sharp images and video even when in motion. For premium video quality, the image sensor supports video recording at up to 8K resolution at 30 frames-per-second (fps).

Samsung ISOCELL GN1 started mass production this month.

China Mobile and Huawei Deliver World’s Highest 5G

China Mobile and Huawei have jointly taken 5G connectivity to a new height by bringing the network to the summit of Mount Everest upon the completion of the world’s highest 5G base station on the altitude of 6500 meters. Together with the launch of the Gigabit optical fibre network at the altitude of 6,500 meters, Huawei enables China Mobile to run its dual Gigabit network on Mount Everest.

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the first successful arrival at Mount Everest from the northern slope, and the 45th anniversary of China’s first official accurate measurement and announcement of Mount Everest, the 5G network on Mount Everest will provide communication services for this 2020 Mount Everest re-measurement is of great significance.

Huawei has offered its end-to-end solutions in the construction of China Mobile’s Everest dual Gigabit network, where base stations were built in Mount Everest Base Camp at the altitude of 5,300 meters, the Transition Camp at 5,800 meters, and the Forward Camp at 6,500 meters. Huawei’s 5G AAU and SPN technologies are applied at these base stations, where network maintenance and optimization are done by a dozen of network specialists who station 24/7 in regions at altitude of 5,300 meters and above to ensure smooth network operations.

Huawei’s 5G AAU is highly integrated in a compact size, making it easy for deployment and installation. It fits particularly well for infrastructure in extreme environment such as Mount Everest. In this project, a network in the “stand alone plus non-stand alone” (SA+NSA) mode connects five 5G base stations. Meanwhile, the 5G fast and huge-capacity connectivity is achieved by Huawei’s Massive MIMO technology supporting lightning speed and large bandwidth.

Huawei’s Massive MIMO is highly reliable with excellent coverage. With its highly flexible three-dimensional narrow beams, the technology works particularly well vertically in Mount Everest. At the altitude of 5,300 meters, the 5G download speed exceeded 1.66 Gbps, where the upload speed tops 215 Mbps.

Meanwhile, quality and undisrupted networks are guaranteed by Huawei’s Intelligent OptiX Network solutions, with data-thirsty transfer of high-res videos, VR live broadcast and the likes, supported by enterprise gateways with 1Gbps upstream/downstream connections. The Everest base camp at 5,300 meters is fully covered at a logged speed of 1.43Gbps, thanks to the Gigabit ONT. Huawei’s 10G PON OLT and 200G ultra-high-speed transmission platform can intelligently manage data throughput, making it possible families and businesses to enjoy super-fast internet access at such high regions.

With its HoloSens intelligent video surveillance system, Huawei ensures streaming quality with the capabilities of optimisation and fault locating with just one click, keeping the networks always on even at the altitude of 6,500 meters at the summit of Everest.
